    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Programmer works as part of the Information Services team to develop and maintain reports, applications, and integrations that support the institution’s student information system and related administrative systems. The position is responsible for writing queries, developing scripts and web- based interfaces, and ensuring data integrity and security in support of internal decision making and external reporting.
     

    Essential Job Duties

    Some of the duties listed below would be day to day management of the Programmer II and will vary depending on the need(s) of the college.  Priorities Include:
    • Develop and maintain reports, views, and dashboards for internal stakeholders and external reporting requirements using the institution’s student information system and related databases.
    • Design, write, test, and document programs, scripts, and applications (including web- based interfaces and portal components) that meet functional and technical requirements.
    • Write queries to retrieve, validate, and update data across the student information system and auxiliary databases, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
    • Develop and maintain secure integrations and interfaces between the student information system and other campus applications, including third-party software and web services.
    • Collaborate with database administrators and systems analysts to maintain databases, optimize performance, and troubleshoot data or connectivity issues.
     
    • reate and maintain user accounts, roles, and permissions as approved by administrators, and support user connectivity to systems and databases.
    • Participate in change management processes, including testing, implementing, and supporting system upgrades, new features, and new applications.
    • Provide technical support and training to end users, including troubleshooting, ad hoc data extraction, and documentation of processes and procedures.
    • Contribute to team-based design discussions, code reviews, and regular project meetings, providing clear communication and timely status updates.
    • Stay current with emerging programming tools, database technologies, and best practices to improve processes and solutions.
    • Other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
     

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an
               equivalent combination of education and related experience.
    • Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts, including experience writing complex queries and stored procedures.
    • Experience with one or more programming languages such as C#, Java, Visual Basic, Python, JavaScript, or similar, and familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, ASP.NET, PHP, or comparable frameworks).
    • Ability to analyze information needs, translate requirements into technical solutions, and develop applications or reports that meet those needs.
    • Skill in troubleshooting data and application issues to resolve inaccuracies and ensure valid, reliable outputs.
    • Ability to handle confidential material with discretion and comply with data security and privacy standards.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non- technical users and present information clearly in both written and oral formats.
    • Ability to plan, organize, and implement responsibilities effectively, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and the public.

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    • Experience working with a student information system or ERP such as Jenzabar or another SQL-based enterprise system.
    • Experience developing web-based portals, custom applications, and content management system components.
    • Familiarity with business intelligence or reporting tools (e.g., Power BI or similar).
    • General understanding of information technology infrastructure, including basic networking concepts and current hardware systems.

    Working Environment

    • Generally indoors in a normal office environment with minimal exposure to temperature changes, noise, dust, or chemicals.
    • Normal college working hours with occasional adjustments involving evening and/or weekend work as required.
    • Generally sedentary work involving sitting most of the time; some mobility within campus and light lifting of office or IT equipment.
    • Frequent use of computers to input, access, and distribute information; close vision required for extended periods.
