Position Summary
The Student Accessibility Coordinator provides support to students with disabilities, temporary medical conditions, and religious accommodation requests at all Crowder Campus locations. The Student Accessibility Coordinator ensures access to academic, facilities, housing, and dining services. This involves reviewing documentation, engaging in interactive discussions with students and Crowder College faculty and staff, and implementing accommodation plans.
Essential Job Duties
This professional position works with a diverse caseload of students to ensure adherence to appropriate policies, procedures, and legal guidelines while providing a welcoming and supportive environment for students and guests of the college. To determine student eligibility and appropriate accommodations that meet all applicable laws/regulations, this position:
- Reviews and interprets supporting documentation including medical, psychological, and psycho-educational assessments.
- Engages students in interactive discussions about their accommodation needs and collaborates with various college programs to implement appropriate and effective accommodation supports in a reasonable time frame.
- Maintains daily case notes and technical and confidential records in various informational and reporting systems.
- Provides ongoing support and communication to students and other stakeholders about accommodations.
- Supports students in accessing and using assistive technologies and auxiliary aids.
- Addresses student concerns proactively, with the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries from students and separate personal and student issues.
- Researches legal updates, industry standards, and best practices.
- Participates in developing department information, presentations, and promotional material, and participates in campus events, including resource fairs, workshops, and training sessions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the direct supervisor and student affairs leadership.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- A Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, human services, disability services, psychology, social sciences, or other appropriate fields of study.
- Thorough knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Title IX.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, outside educational partners, and other stakeholders within the community.
- Experience in reviewing medical, psychological, and educational evaluations is beneficial, as well as, experience with assistive technology.
Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities- A Master’s degree.
- Experience in higher education.
Information Technology Abilities- Ability to operate a personal computer within the Crowder College Network environment using the currently available Microsoft Windows operating system.
- Ability to perform basic Jenzabar functions.
- Ability to use E-mail and associated calendaring/scheduling applications.
- Ability to perform basic word processing using MS Word.
- Ability to perform basic spreadsheet functions using MS Excel.
- Ability to use other computer programs as needed.
Positions Supervised- None.
Working Environment:- Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting and may involve frequent interruptions and distractions.
- May require extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing.
- May encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel.
- Normal college working hours but adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work is required from time to time.
- Travel for professional development and services to students, at all Crowder locations, is expected.
- A neat appearance and appropriate business apparel are required.

Physical:- Generally sedentary work involving sitting most of the time but will involve outdoor mobility within the campus and various sites (even in inclement weather) engaging in physical activities such as walking (sometimes long distances) when helping with student activities.
